Equipment racks, which can look eerily similar to sophisticated IT installations, are great because they make for a very secure installation, offer lots of accessories like cable management, surge protection and ventilation systems. Racks are available in essentially two configurations. The first is a freestanding configuration, ideal for housing components used in centralized distribution systems. These racks are normally caster based and located in the mechanical room.
Structured cabling also includes the use of in-wall conduits or “video bundles” to provide a pathway from outlets to television or other audio/video component locations. For HDTV, as an example, it is generally not as simple as just attaching a coax cable to the rear of your television. Your structured cabling “backbone” even plays a role in sophisticated distributed audio & video systems.
